Hi Tia,
Thanks for writing and for your interest in New York's Next Top Makers. Per the Official Rules:
"A. The Competition is open only to:
(i) individuals who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry, are legal residents of the United States, and reside in New York City as of the time of entry and when Finalists are announced;
(ii) teams of eligible individuals where each team member meets the eligibility requirements for individual Contestants; and
(iii) corporations (including not-for-profit corporations and other nonprofit organizations), limited liability companies, partnerships, and other legal entities that, at the time of entry are legally formed, maintain their primary place of business in New York City, and employ fewer than ten (10) people (“Organizations”)."
I'm afraid that if you don't meet the eligibility requirements you are not eligible to enter the competition.
Best to you,
Marny

Hi Neil,
Thanks for writing. All team members need to reside in New York City as of the time of entry and when Finalists are announced. If an individual works in NYC, but does not reside here, he/she is not eligible to enter the challenge.
Best,
Marny

Its not fair. How about us neighboring states like New Jersey?
I hope rules change.

May be you can form an LLC with some cheap incubator space in NYC. As far as your company's primary place of business is NYC, you should be able to submit a product.
I am not a moderator or organizer; it's just my opinion by looking at the rules and talking to few folks at meetups.

Hi all,
Good questions. Let me clarify:
If you are entering as an *individual,* or a *team of individuals,* you and all the members of your team need to reside in NYC as of the time of entry and when Finalists are announced.
If you are entering as a *corporation,* the corporation must be legally formed, maintain their primary place of business in New York City, and employ fewer than ten (10) people (“Organizations”) at the time of entry. In other words, if you live in NJ, but your business operates out of NYC, you can enter the competition as a *corporation.*
Please let me know if you have further questions, I am here to help.
Best,
Marny
